So they wrote a newsletter to help them achieve this goal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>Once you open the email, you can easily tell they wrote it with their goal in mind\u2014to get their subscribers to click through the pictures and links to get their recipes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>Yummly\u2019s goal was to use the email to share their recipes and persuade their newsletter subscribers to click through and read them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>This goal guided how they wrote the email; they designed everything in it (the pictures, structure, buttons) to get their audience to click and read the recipes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"3-use-a-catchy-and-to-the-point-subject-line-to-increase-your-open-rates\" name=\"3-use-a-catchy-and-to-the-point-subject-line-to-increase-your-open-rates\" data-animate data-destination=\"3-use-a-catchy-and-to-the-point-subject-line-to-increase-your-open-rates\" class=\"heading-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"catchy\">3. And he knows he has senior copywriters on his list who may be looking to outsource some of their work but hiring writers is a huge problem for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>So Joel sent out an email and opened with the following in his first paragraph:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>\u201cEver found yourself angrily rewriting all of the content that the writer you hired put together?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>With a first paragraph like this, Joel is prioritizing talking about his audience\u2019s problem in this newsletter. And if they really have the problem he\u2019s describing, they\u2019ll be interested in reading the rest of his email because it&#8217;s valuable information to them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>As a professional, one of your strengths is seeing your customers\u2019 or audience\u2019s pain points in a way that they can\u2019t. And this is because you spend most of your time talking to them, seeing their complaints, seeing their aspirations, and so on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>This expert knowledge you have about them is an advantage. So when you start your newsletters talking about their challenges, they\u2019re bound to read the rest of your emails.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"how-to-start-your-emails-talking-about-a-problem-your-subscribers-have\" name=\"how-to-start-your-emails-talking-about-a-problem-your-subscribers-have\" data-animate data-destination=\"how-to-start-your-emails-talking-about-a-problem-your-subscribers-have\" class=\"heading-wrapper\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to start your emails talking about a problem your subscribers have<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>In most cases, starting your email with your audience\u2019s problem doesn\u2019t mean you should explicitly say \u201cyou have this problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>You can start by asking them a question related to the problem they have\u2014much like what Joel did in the example above.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>And then you put a bit more emphasis on that problem and share more about how it\u2019s afflicting them, so they\u2019ll know you know what you\u2019re talking about and why they should listen to you. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"5-emphasize-how-their-problem-is-affecting-them\" name=\"5-emphasize-how-their-problem-is-affecting-them\" data-animate data-destination=\"5-emphasize-how-their-problem-is-affecting-them\" class=\"heading-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"emphasize\">5. Emphasize how their problem is affecting them<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>Emphasizing your audience\u2019s pain points and how they afflict them will make them spend more time reading your newsletter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>The more you emphasize the level of affliction they\u2019re facing with a problem, the better they\u2019ll understand why your solution (product, offer) is relevant.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>And once they understand the importance of your solution, there\u2019s a good chance they\u2019ll want to solve their problem with your solution (i.e., whatever you\u2019re offering to solve it).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>Here\u2019s a great example from Flo (a women\u2019s health app) of what emphasizing your audience\u2019s pain point looks like:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>They opened the email with the promise of a solution to a problem many of their subscribers have: \u201cYou can beat cramps\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>They have a section that spells out exactly what their subscribers&#8217; problems are with cramps and the benefits they&#8217;ll get from their course.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div id=\"how-to-emphasize-how-your-audiences-problem-is-affecting-them\" name=\"how-to-emphasize-how-your-audiences-problem-is-affecting-them\" data-animate data-destination=\"how-to-emphasize-how-your-audiences-problem-is-affecting-them\" class=\"heading-wrapper\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to emphasize how your audience\u2019s problem is affecting them<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>To help your audience understand the impact their problem has on them, you\u2019ll need to explain how their problem affects them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>This means you\u2019ll need to be a good storyteller to know how to write a newsletter. For every newsletter you write, you\u2019ll need to come up with interesting ways to introduce their problem and put some emphasis on how it\u2019s affecting them. Recommend a quick and actionable solution<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve identified a problem and emphasized its impact on your audience, you\u2019ve left a great opening to position your product, service, or even your content as the solution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div data-animate-children class='p-block'>\n<p>For example, in the newsletter example we shared earlier, the Flo team recommended their course as a solution to their audiences&#8217; cramps problem.
